Talent attracts talent
The construction sector in New Zealand has undoubtedly been faced with workforce challenges recently. To help Southbase stand out in this crowded marketplace a dynamic, multipurpose video was needed for their international recruitment drive. We framed this around the company’s most valuable asset: their people.
Since their 2013 inception Southbase has cemented a reputation as proven performers in commercial construction. Their track record boasts of over a billion dollars’ worth of projects of national significance. This kind of success demands a motivated, ambitious workforce and a culture committed to both attracting great people and growing them.
We chose to walk prospective international talent through Southbase’s operations, showcasing both the advantages of life in New Zealand and the career-shaping opportunities on offer. This is a company that invests heavily in upskilling its people. Our aim was to show that story, rather than tell it.
So, we worked with Southbase to identify a group of flourishing international recruits and local up-and-comers, centering the video on their voices. Intuitive, organic direction of the interview subjects allowed their stories to unfold in an authentic way. We planned and directed on-site shoots in various locations, showing the breadth of opportunity available at Southbase. With tight project management everything was delivered to the edit suite on time and ready to go. Here our team constructed a brisk, energetic narrative, punctuated with bold titles, candid cutaways and sweeping drone footage from captured content.
Building with both head and heart
With their name behind some of Aotearoa’s most nationally significant buildings, Southbase Construction wanted prospective clients to see for themselves how partnerships and planning delivered project success.
The brief was to showcase the depth and breadth of the community assets Southbase had delivered, along with the technical detail and expert construction methodologies that completed these assets.
Moving between large scale imagery of completed buildings and observational footage of the team at work, we highlighted the people behind the moving parts – their skill, professionalism, and pride in place. We needed to get the best interviews and footage from Southbase staff across various sites, as well as busy school principals. Running a tight shooting schedule with firm, focused project management was essential. With natural direction and a careful eye for lighting, our team captured the warmth and appreciation of the stakeholders within the pivotal locations of their communities.
Deliverables
